Reducing Food Waste with Tech: How We Helped Launch the Afoodible App

We partnered with Afoodible to help bring their ‘fridge in your pocket’ app from concept to launch, providing the tools, strategy, and MVP to reduce food waste and empower users to save on their food budget.

The opportunity:

Our Client has a mission – to provide simple tools to help people contribute to a sustainable future. Afoodible is a “fridge in your pocket” mobile app that helps you reduce your food waste and your food budget.

We were approached at the early stages as the concept for the food-in-your-pocket app was taking shape.

The solution:

We took our Client through a Product Discovery workshop the output of which was a working prototype, a business and financial model and an investor deck – the tools to help our client validate the concept and refine the business model.

Our strategy saw us craft the business model, conceptualise and scope the solution in a Product Discovery workshop. Following on from here, we created a strong investor pitch deck and developed a brand and visual identity for the product launch. After building and testing a prototype in facilitated testing workshops, we built and launched our hybrid mobile MVP app to both the Apple and Google Play stores, using the established components and frameworks from Elemental Apps.

Core features included Facebook login, barcode scanning, speech recognition, recipe search with 3rd party API, fridge sharing, item editor, shopping lists, graphical representation of waste stats.

The results:

With a validated model, we embarked on the MVP build adopting the tools and frameworks enabled by Elemental Apps to allow for a rapid build, deploying to the app stores within 6 weeks of writing the first line of code.
